The European Commission Blue Book Traineeship Program.. Apply for the 2023 European Commission Blue Book Traineeship Program. Every year, the European Commission offers five-month paid traineeships for 1800 trainees. 

 These traineeships can be in the areas of translation and administration. The traineeships typically begin on January 1 for the spring session and one month later for the autumn session. The primary goal of these traineeships is to give participants hands-on experience with EU policy-making in a multicultural environment.

Applications for the fall session, which will start on October 20, 2023, are now open and will end on January 31, 2023. Trainees work all over the European Commission/Services/Agencies. While many are based in Brussels, Others work in Luxembourg and across the European Union.

Each time a Traineeship is scheduled, The Commission’s Traineeships Office determines the exact number of trainees assigned in every Directorate General, Service and Agency depending on the budget available and the current conditions and resources.

When you are a trainee, your daily tasks consist of the following

  • You will participate in and lead meetings and working groups, forums public hearings.
  • Trainees will conduct research, compose documents, reports, and discussions, and respond to queries.
  • Additionally, you will be entrusted with the responsibility of managing work-related projects.

The European Commission Blue Book Traineeship Program Benefits

After you have been selected for this traineeship, you’ll be eligible for the following benefits.

  • You will be given you will receive a living allowance throughout your traineeship. The living allowance for 2022 traineeships included 1,252.68 EUR for a month.
  • Trainees will also be reimbursed for expenses related to visas.
  • They could also reimburse medical costs and travel expenses.

The European Commission Blue Book Traineeship Program Eligibility

The traineeship program is available to graduates of the university who:

  1. You must possess a University degree or an equivalent with at least three years of studies or 180 ETCS equivalent to an entire course (Bachelor’s Degree)
  2. Candidates must have proficient knowledge of at least two EU Official languages. One of them is procedural English, French, and German.
  3. For non-EU citizens, just one language is required.
  4. The required language level is at a C level, as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  5. There must be no previous working experience that exceeds six weeks at any EU institution agency or body, EU delegations, or with MPs (MEPs) and Advocate General in the EUCJ.
  6. There is no limit on the age to apply.

The European Commission Blue Book Traineeship Program Application

Application for the Traineeship application process is made on the internet using the Application Portal. The application portal is currently open until January 31, 2023. You must complete the application forms listed below.

  • A copy of your valid passport or identity card to show proof of your citizenship
  • Upload copies of all the university diplomas you declare to have when you submit your application.
  • Include transcripts from your university for each degree you’ve earned
  • The applicants may also provide proof of enrollment in current studies.
  • Evidence of language proficiency could be a combination of the following.
    • Language proficiency certificates
    • Written proof of proficiency in writing for the language obtained from centers for language. Language proofs should indicate the level of proficiency attained.
    • University language courses indicating the degree.
    • All university courses are taught entirely in English.
  • If required, Copies of any evidence of your declared work experiences. Request a reference letter from your employer on an official letterhead of the company that is signed and dated and clearly states the work duration.
